Based on the “Combating Spiritual Strongholds “series, by Rick Joyner
The religious spirit seeks to have us replace our love for the Lord with idols, like men, or service. It will try to guilt us into “performing” for God to receive his approval and favor. This is obviously wrong, because of the favor we find just for receiving the gift of his son, Jesus. Jesus did everything needed to live a perfect life, free of sin, and he did it all out of love for the father, without a single faulty motivation, such as guilt, self-recognition, or simply put; striving. And because he did that, we have his love and the love of the father. Just because we exist, he loves us.
God had unlimited grace and favor for us, and it isn’t based on anything we can do, say, or even think. It is based only on the fact that Jesus took care of everything. Anything we do in ministry, or service, is because we love him, and show his love to others, not because we have to, or need to earn anything.
The religious spirit seeks to have us do religious activity as a substitute for the power of the Holy Spirit. It is the anti-thesis of the power of the cross, Christ’s blood, and the Holy Spirit. The religious spirit will cause division by causing us to be suspicious and skeptical of each other, instead of supporting each other with intercession. It will also cause us to get caught up in our recognition, rather than bringing glory to God.
This struck a chord with me, as I have been feeling confused about getting more involved in my church, with various things, because I “should,” and because I have also felt guilty about my sins, even after repenting-not trusting that God really removed them as far as the east is from the west. During a personal time of worship, Jesus showed me that He knows everything about me, and he loves me anyway.
He Loves Me Anyway Jessica Andrews
You’d be surprised to know my vein imaginations
Appalled at my motivations
Ashamed if you knew the thoughts in my head
He does, and he helps me change them instead
Chorus:
He knows everything, and he loves me anyway (repeat)
I want to run in that room full of Pharisees
Run to him, break my jar at his feet
I’d sop up the whole mess with my hair
I’d throw myself at him-tell everyone there, that :
Chorus:
He knows everything and he loves me anyway (repeat)
Why do you waste your precious time and energy
Getting all sweaty-dancin’ all around like a feen
Get it together, get over yourself
It’s like you’re addicted-need serious help
Pouring yourself out on this man
OH! But you don’t understand
(C)
He knows EVERYTHING! And he loves me ANYWAY!!!!!
BRIDGE:
The only one who knows it all about me
The only one with the power to change things
The only one that could take all my stuff
The only one who was man enough
(Chorus)
He knows everything, and he loves me anyway
